Cue our excitement when we came across By Sarah London recently. Each product is created with the primary aim of supporting the skin's microbiome and overall skin health through innovative, plant-oil blends that deliver vital nutrients, enzymes and lipids. We were interested in finding out more so we got in touch with the brands Founders, Sarah and Lauren.
By Sarah was founded in 2017 with a mission of delivering minimal skincare for optimum skin health. Their skincare is made from the highest quality natural and organic, plant-based ingredients. With absolutely no hidden, artificial or synthetic ingredients, their products are free from anything that dilutes the nutrient rich and skin-enhancing benefits of the plant based ingredients they use. They have been honoured with more than a dozen awards for their natural skincare collection. Their Organic Facial Oil has been awarded the Best Facial Oil by the international Beauty Shortlist Awards for 4 years in a row. They use plastic free, recyclable packaging and all of their products are hand-blended, packaged and shipped from the UK.
We love your brand ethos, what is your story of how you came about creating By Sarah London?
Our story began with Lauren's leukaemia journey. After becoming her life-saving stem cell donor, her sister, Sarah, developed plant based skincare to restore her sensitive skin. It was an extremely challenging time for us, but our strong bond kept us going, and Sarah's original blends are now our multi award-winning skincare line loved by beauty editors at Vogue, ELLE, The Times and more, and adored by their community.
Unfortunately the transparency of a lot of brands leaves a lot to be desired. How can we be sure what is actually in the products we use?
Looking at the ingredient list is the best place to start. We provide full transparency of formula on the front label across our collection so you know exactly how you're caring for your skin. When looking for ethical options, look for products that are certified with Cruelty Free International and The Vegan Society (you'll find their logos across our collection).
Your products are created for people with sensitive skin. What are the benefits of using plant based products and can we all reap the rewards, regardless of our skin type?
Through Lauren's experience, we know what it's like to have sensitive, reactive and irritated skin. That's why we choose the finest organic plant oils that deliver vital nutrients, enzymes and lipids. And we don't use any irritating essential oils or fragrance. You won't find any added water either, to ensure that every drop is there for your skin and the formula has not been diluted. Plant oils support the skin's natural renewal and restorative processes. It must be a labour of love creating new products as you have to test them so rigorously, which can’t be easy. What is the average time it takes you to create something new, from initial concept to final product?
It takes many months of research, ideating, testing and approving. Our secret? Lauren is our in-house chief guinea pig. We test all new formulas on her skin and if there is no reaction, we move to the next step in the process.
What are your top do’s and don’ts with regards to our skincare regime?
Do choose plant oils to care for the skin and deliver a natural glow. Don't over layer the skin with multiple products or fad formulas, in particular potent acids or exfoliators.
